ST ANDREW’S DAY SOCIAL.

The Canterbury Caledonian Society celebrated St Andrew's Day with a social at the Caledonian Hall on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance of members and friends. The president, Mr C. S. Thomas, occupied the chair and on the platform with him were the Rev T. W. Armour and Messrs R. H. Rankin and W. Edginton, vicepresidents. An interesting address on the Highlands of Scotland and Highland folk was given by the Rev T. W. Armour. The following items were contributed: Selection. Society’s Pipe Band: song, Mrs Whitehead: Highland fling. Misses Elaine Barnett and Daphne Fowler: elocutionary item, Miss Drysdale; sword dance. Miss Jean Marsh: song, Mr I. Fraser; item, Mr R. A. Malcolm’: Seann Triubhais, Miss Billie Addis; songs, Mrs Wood and Mr Sliaw: Highland reel. Misses Elaine Barnett. Daphne Fowler. Jean Marsh and Billie Addis. Mrs A. Macquarrie was at the piano. After the concert, dancing was enjoyed to the music of Jackson’s orchestra.
