TOURIST ATTRACTIONS.

Claims of South Island Resorts. CSpecial to the “ Star.") HERMITAGE, December 2. To consolidate proposals made at a similar conference last year for securing greater patronage for South Island tourist resorts, nearly one hundred representatives of interested bodies gathered at the Hermitage yesterday. At the 1932 conference the South Island Tourist League was formed and it is felt that much valuable work has yet to be done. The gathering included representatives of the Public Works Department, tourist booking agencies, county councillors, and rail, motor, hotel and air transport interests. Mr A. P. Harper, president of the New Zealand Alpine Club, was among the guests. The programme commenced to-day when a car trip of 14 miles to the Ball Hut and an excursion on the Tasman Glacier were undertaken in brilliant weather amidst marvellous scenery, including the Hochstetter icefalls, with Mt Cook and Mt Sefton as a majestic background and the Main Divide peaks drifting away in to the blue distance. The party will return to the Hemitage to-night for a special dinner, after which speeches will be given by prominent visitors.
