GLACIER ATTRACTION

The now world-famed attractions which the mountain scenery of the dined to dwarf the equally important attractic which the glaciers of these regions afford. In no other part of New Zealand can be found such a unique combination of glacier and mountain scenery. With the completion of the motor road from the Hermitage to the Tasman Chalet, the Tasman Glacier trip can be done in comfort and safety by young and old. The Tasman is one of the largest glaciers in the world outside the poles, being over eighteen miles .ong and two miles wide in parts, and it contains 12,000 acres of solid ice The panoramic view of this glacier, enclosed by the mountain ranges towering twelve, eleven and ten thousand feet, provides a view unequalled even in Switzerland. Other equally accessible glaciers are the Mueller, Ball, Hooker, and various smaller ones. Preparations arc well in hand for the coming tourist season, and indications are that it will be considerably better even than last year. A good amount of work has been put in on the I lermitage-Queenstown Road. It is a favoured route connecting the Hermitage with the Southern Lakes. Already some of the overseas climbers have arrived, including Miss Katie Gardiner, of England, who will spend the climbing season at Mount Cook.
