Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. COAIING-OF-AGE party. Miss Nell Sorton was the guest of honour at a delightful party arranged by her girl friends in celebration of her twenty-first birthday. The party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. K. Hart, Tuam Street. Miss Sorton was presented with a golden key by her cousin, Mr X. Edwards, Anama. The toast of the guest of honour was proposed by Mr A. Iv. Hart, and responded to on behalf of the guest by Mr X. Edwards. The evening was spent in games, competitions, and dancing, the competitions being won by Misses P. \ incent, I. Hayward, J. M Donald, Messrs R. Tavlor and Mr Brough. Those present were: Mr and Mrs A. K Hart. Mr and Mrs It. Dunn, Alesdames J. Kelly. J. T. Sorton. E. U. Sterling, Misses Kell Sorton, poreen Hart, L. Crouch, Nell ltodmell. Ivy Hayward, Enid Yorath. Phyllis Vincent,. Mona Austin. An enjoyable time was spent on Saturday evening, at the home of Mrs Brunsden, Richmond, when a number of friends gathered in honour of Miss C. Brunsden, whose marriage to Mr Roy Chapman will take place next month. The party took the form of a “ pantry ” evening, and the bride-to-be was the recipient of many useful gifts. Games and community singing, which was led by Miss Zora Adkins (piano) and Mr Frank Fitz George (mouth organ) were greatly enjoyed. Mr Frank Fitz George was M.C. Among those present were: Mesdames H. Matthews, Greene. Brunsden, H. Brunsden, H. M. Fitz George, Chapman, Misses M. Brunsden. C. Brunsden, E. Breitmeyer, M. Hampton, Bowden, Clark, I. Chapman, Romola Adkins, Zora. Adkins; Messrs Matthews, Greene, H. Brunsden, Chapman, Roy Chapman, J. R. Krakowski, H. Bowden, L. Young, Keith Dyer, Frank Fitz George, and Master Eric Greene. Sumner Tennis Club’s Dance. The Sumner Tennis Club held a successful dance and bridge evening in the Masonic Hall at Sumner last night. The committee responsible for the arrangements comprised Mrs N. H. Barlow, Misses Kathleen Hampton, Hazel Cook, Mary Browne, and Noeleen Bishop, Messrs N. Donovan and D. Climie. Music was supplied by a radio gramophone. Those present included: Mr and Mrs I. J. Wilson, Mr and Mrs Lipscombe, Mr and Mrs R. N. C. Hill, Mr and Mrs X. H. Barlow, Mr and Mrs H. Barlow, -Mr and Mrs E. T. Salvesen, Mr and Mrs W. R. Dawe, Mr and Mrs Norman Donovan, Mr and Mrs H. A. A pleasant afternoon was spent at the residence of Mrs J. Hunt, sen., Cambridge Street, Ashburton, the occasion being a farewell to Mesdames J. and G. Loudon, who are leaving to reside in the North Island. At the conclusion of afternoon tea the guests were each presented by the hostess with silver serviette rings.
