APOLOGY WANTED.
Labour Candidate and Tramway Election. A PUBLISHED STATEMENT. In consequence of certain statements published in “ The Citizen,” a document recently put into circulation in Christchurch, Mr J. Mathiscn, Labour candidate for the Christchurch Tramway Board, states that he has demanded a public apology from the Christchurch Citizens’ Association, Messrs Andrews, Baty and Co., Ltd., printers, and Mr H. Sweney, publisher, who are the three parties responsible for the issuing of the publication. V In the event of an apology not being made within twenty-four hours, Mr Mathison says that he will take action for libel. He has consulted a solicitor and has been informed that the statements to which he has taken exception are actionable. His counsel has advised him to proceed with the case if an apology is not made.
