MUSICAL AFTERNOON.

Victoria League Members Entertained. EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. Another of the popular afternoons arranged from time to time by the Christchurch branch of the Victoria League for members and their friends was held y'esterday in the Jellicoe Hall. The fact that Dr T. Leslie Crooke was in charge of the musical programme no doubt attracted many' music lovers, who attended with pleasant anticipations of a treat in store. Mrs Deans, president of the League, welcomed those present. With her on the platform was Airs W. S. Bean, who in a few words referred to the regret with which the committee had received the resignation of the league’s secretary, Miss C. Gosset. Airs Bean also stated that Airs Carey Hill, the founder of tfce Christchurch branch of the Victoria League, and its first secretary, would arrive in Christchurch from England about the middle of next month. As is alway's the case at Victoria League parties, there was a profusion of lovely flowers, flat bowls of shaded lupins and poppies along the front of the stage, and vases of gay Iceland poppies on the little afternoon tea tables. The programme was as follows: Violin solo, “Midnight Belis” (Henberger), Miss Norma Middleton; songs, “The Brown Bird” and “I Know a Lovely Garden,” Miss C. Bowen; songs, “Serenata,” “Questa Quella,” Mr S. C. Andrews; songs, “Le Baiser," “Alleluia” Mrs W. Scott; violin solo, “L*Amour” (Hartmann). Miss Norma Middheton: song, “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes,” Mr S. C. Andrews; “Song of the Open,” Mi's W. Scott; song, “Where My Caravan has Rested.” Miss C. Bowen; piano solo, “ Nachtstucke ” (Schumann). Dr T. L. Crooke.
