The Japanese have begun a general withdrawal from the demilitarised zone, and a few days,hence not a single soldier will remain, releasing a large number for service elsewhere. The Japanese, however, continue to control the Great Wall, but are allowing Chinese artillery to proceed to Funing, where bandits are operating. They have been given a last chance to surrender.

JAPAN ACCUSED.

Encouraging Opium Growing in Manchukuo. GENEVA, November 3. The American delegate, Mr Fulle, caused a sensation at a meeting of the Advisory Commission on the opium and narcotics traffic by declaring that Japan was encouraging production of opium in Manchukuo, where a monopoly had been established. Aeroplanes, he said, were employed to drop pamphlets urging the cultivation of the poppy. He added that new coins on the obverse have an opium poppy.
