OWNER WARNED.
Dog Found With Label On Collar. POISONING THREAT. On returning to his home at 24, Hinau Street, Riccarton, last evening, Mr F. T- H. Bell, secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club, found his dog with a torn label tied to its collar, bearing the words: “If this dog . . . . at home .... poisoned.” Had the label nbt been torn the message would obviously have read: “If this dog is not kept at home it will be poisoned.” Recently there has been an epidemic of dog-poisoning in Merivale and Fendalton, and it is possible that the person responsible means to extend his operations to another suburb. Mr Bell said that his dog was a foxterrier, which was playful, but not the slightest bit vicious. He had always kept a dog and had never received a complaint before. He hoped that the person who had made the threat would communicate with him either by telephone or by an anonymous letter, so that he would have the opportunity of correcting, if necessary, any fault the dog might have. Cases decided in the Courts have established that a person has no right to destroy a dog that trespasses on property. Anyone found to be guilty of the Cxfence can be held responsible for damages.
