MEMORIAL SERVICE.
Tribute to Rev Samuel Lawry. The memory of a minister, who was highly esteemed both within and without his Church, was honoured last evening by the large and representative congregation, which attended a memorial service to the late Rev Samuel Lawry, conducted at the Durham Street Methodist Church by the Rev Clarence - Eaton. 1 Mr Eaton paid an eloquent tribute to , the memory of the late Mr Lawry, who, he said, had no scintillating gifts of pul- j 2 pit oratory. lie was no meteoric genius ; flashing across the sky, but a steady ’ beacon light, near to his fellows and supremely serviceable to every man who passed along his way. 2 “ His was pre-eminently a useful i life,” said Mr Eaton. “No more cap-, able man ever sat in the presidential or / secretarial chairs of his Church, none a was more strenuous in toil, none wiser [. in counsel, none more statesmanlike 1 and far-seeing.” e The Rev L. A. North, minister of the s Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, where n Mr Lawry s son is organist, sang a solo, n “ Crossing the Bar,” and the choir sang 1 the anthem. “As Pants the Ilart” e (Spohr). The service was concluded r with the hymn, “Abide With Me.”
