CANTERBURY WIN.
Interprovincial Boxing Tourney. FIXTURE AT BLENHEIM. (Special to the “ Star”) BLENHEIM, July 2. By five bouts to four, Canterbury carried off the honours in the interprovincial boxing tourney on Saturday night before a packed audience. One unfortunate feature was that Dasler, of Blenheim, in his match against his old opponent. Bourne, ol Christchurch, apparently failed to hear the gong at the end of the fifth of six rounds and continued raining blows on his opponent. The referee awarded the match tc Bourne on a foul, the crowd expressing disapproval of the decision. Dasler was well ahead on points and the result was hardly in doubt. The brightest exhibition of the evening was put up by N. Mudgway (Blenheim) in his match against G. Tyro (Lyttelton). Mudgway’s footwork, ringcraft and ability to sidestep himself out of trouble completely puzzled his opponent. In the end Mudgway unlimbered a right hook which sent Tyro to the mat for the count. Scott (Christchurch) was much too good for Mackintosh. while Kerr (Christchurch) was a shade better than Cassidy. . , , The fly-weights, Fisher (Christchurch) and P. Raynor, put up a pretty exhibition, Fisher securing the verdict by a narrow- margin. Nelligan (Christchurch) had no difficulty in disposing* of Hendra. who does not seem to know what defence is. T. Robinson (Blenheim) again met r. O’Connor and took a points decision. J. M. Furness (Blenheim) scored a narrow- victory over Aspell, wl M’Kenzie (Christchurch) was nearly equal to Morrigan. _ In a special match. Clarrie Raynei (Blenheim) outpointed Bob Coughlan Results, Marlborough men mentioned first:— Morrigan beat M'Kenzie. Furness beat Aspell. Robinson beat O'Connor. Hendra lost to Nelligan. Rayner lost to Fishet;. Mackintosh lost to Scott. Cassidy lost to Kerr. Mudgway knocked out Tyro. Dasler lost on a foul to Bourne. Uzcudun v. M’Corkindale. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MADRID, July l. In the presence of 40,000 spectators in the bull-ring at Barcelona, Paqlino Uzcudun outpointed M’Corkindale in a ten-round bout. An English critic says that M’Corkindale was easily the better boxer and deserved the decision. Christchurch Boy Wins. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 2. P.
