May 9 At the wool sales 9337 bales were i offered, including 4039 bales of New ; Zealand wool, and about 4472 bales were sold. There was a poor selection of Merinos and a representative offering of cross-breds. A crowded attendance excited general competition, the Home trade bidding keenly £or “cross-breds. Prices advanced, pared with March closing rates. Ibices were: Merinos —Greasy 7£ to 10 per cent up, scoureds 73 per cent fine 73 to 10 per cent.yp, medium 74 per cent up, coarse 5 per up, slipes 5 to 10 per cent up. New Zealand lots sold as follows-: Greasy cross-bred—SJC (top fwi-ce 83d), average 73d. Scoured half-tired—Barrosa (14.3 d), Half-bred lamb slipe, Belfast (Ul<*). llSd. - . OTHER REPORTS. Sank of new Zealand. The sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance of buvers. There is an active demand* by all branches of the trade. Compared with the close of last series, prices for Merinos are Id per lb higher, fine crossj breds id to 3d per lb higher, medium cross-breds id per lb higher, coarse cross-breds id per lb higher. PYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. At the wool sales which opened today there was a large attendance of buyers. The market was very animated, competition being general throughout and all sections operating freely, especially the home trade. Of the New Zealand wools offered there was a good selection of cross-bred styles, but other varieties were rather disappointing. As compared with the closing rates of the March series, we quote the following rise in values:—Merinos: Id higher. Fine half-breds (56-58's): Id to 13d higher. lialf-breds (504>6’s): Id higher. Three-quarter-breds (4648‘s): 3d to id higher. Cross-breds (40-44’s) : id higher. DALGETY AND CO., LTD. The London wool sales opened with strong competition. There was a large attendance and an average selection of wools, old season's New Zealand crossbreds predominating. As compared with closing rates of last series, prices were:—Merino: Greasy, d to Id higher: scoured, 4d to 3d higher. Hairbred: Greasy, 3d to 13d higher; scoured, 3d to Id higher. Greasy crossbred: Fine, 3d to 3d higher: medium, id to •3d higher; coarse, unchanged to 3d higher. Scoured cross-bred: 3d to Id i higher. Slipe: Fine, id to 3d higher; other sorts, 3d to 3d. NATIONAL MORTGAGE AND AGENCY CO., LTD. The auctions opened with a large attendance of home and Continental buyers and with spirited competition. Compared with closing rates of last sale we quote:—Greasy Merino: Best. Id dearer; average, 3d dearer. Half-bred: 50-56. Id dearer. Cross-bred: 48-50, 3d to 3d per lb dearer; 46-48, Id to 3d dearer; 44-46, id to 3d dearer. 10-44, id to 3d dearer: 36-40. id to 3d dearer. Fine slipes: id to id dearer. Medium and coarse slipes: id dearer. Scoured Merino: Id to 13d dearer. As at present arranged, the sales will close on May 31.
