i l (By "WHESL.”) ; ai The Tour de France, which for several years has been the world’s greatest road ; classic, is to be eclipsed this year by a . German road race. Bast year Lamberton rode | exceptionally well from scratch in im- | portant road races. If. W. Birch, who was a prominent track rider a few years ago, is getting ready for this year’s big road race. It is a few years since Birch competed on the road. He rode successfully on the track, his chief win being ‘ the St Patrick’s wheel race a few years ago. R. B. Blakeway, the amateur rider ■who was seriously injured whilst competing: in the Canterbury amateur championships at English Park in March, is about again. E. A. It has been decided to hold more of tnese outings in preparation lor the coming road season. i A , ? ovelt y in the shape of a totalisator has been introduced on cycle racing tracks in Hungary, the “ tote ” being 1" c °nneetion with both cash and amateur events, it would, no doubt be interesting and profitable if “ totes ” were introduced at New Zealand sports meetings. 1 Cycle road racing is booming in England. No fewer than 270 entries—-a rerecently received for a twenty-five miles road race. • Mr S. F Edge, of England, the welliiM? Air Coffey, the other cash representative, has never taken any interest in cycling and hds not followed up the sport either on the road or track. On the amateur side of the federation, neither Alessrs London nor Taylor can be classed as cycling representatives, as they do not follow up the sport in %any shape or form. The cash representatives on the federation were appointed by Air Kennedy personally about three years ago, the appointments being confirmed at the Timaru conference of the union last January.
