THE HORSE RETURNS,

Tried and Trusted Friend of Man. SALE OF CLYDESDALES. (Special to the “Star.”) SYDNEY, April 24. One of the natural sequels to the Royal Show is the horse sale, and the sale of Clydesdales at the Showgrounds supplied convincing proof that “the return of the horse ” is here a realitv and an accomplished fact. “ One of the outstanding features of the show,” according to one competent iudge, was the defeat, of Crystal Tide the imported Clydesdale, by the New Zealander Canmorc, sent over from Mawera to take the championship The quality of the Clydesdales this year was splendid and the number of entries far in excess of previous re cords—los individual exhibits this year as. against 55 two years ago This if one of many proofs afforded by the show that the horse is coming into his 3wn again in New South Wales. “To meet the needs of general economy," as one of our newspapers put it. “ the farmer has returned to the old, tried and trusted friend of man.” The result so far as the Royal Show was concerned was that all the available accommodation was crowded out. As a matter of figures, there were 891 separate notices in the various horse classes as against 800 last year. All this, of course, points toward the long-expected and much-desired “ rehabilitation of the horse,” and in the sale-ring the bids and the prices finally secured confirmed the best anticipations of horse-lovers. So far as the Clydesdales are concerned it was the best sale at this show for twenty years. The New Zealand champion, Canmore. fetched the record price of •530 guineas, another stallion brought 375 guineas, and one breeder received 1020 guineas for five horses, surely a proof that for Clydesdales at least the tide has turned at last.
