Captain Cries “ Good Luck ” to Lifeboat. GOES DOWN WITH SHIP. (Special to the “ Star.”) LONDON, March 28. A British trawler sinking off a barren coast in the Arctic; ten of the crew tumbling into a small lifeboat while mountainous seas threaten to engulf them at any instant, the captain. still at his post, cries to them through the howling blizzard, “ Good luck!” —and as he cries, he goes down with his ship This was the thrilling drama enacted off the extreme north-east coast of Norway, when in a blinding snowstorm the Hull trawler Lord Deramore (346 tons), was swept on to the rocks near Vardc and sank within three minutes with the loss of five men—four who were trapped below deck and the captain who refused to desert his post Took Son’s Place. The captain was Charles Enivolson. a Norwegian by birth, but a naturalised British subject. lie had sailed in Hull trawlers for more than twenty years, was one of the most experienced and successful skippers, and knew the Norwegian coast thoroughly. His home was in Park Avenue, Hull. The other four members of the crew who lost their lives were; Chief Officer li. Atkinson, Ella Street, Hull; Second Engineer G. A. Thomas, Cavendish Road, Sutton-upon-Hull; Trimmer J. E. Harris, RugbyStreet, Hull; Trimmer G. Temple, Jones Terrace, Walcott Street, Hull. Atkinson was taking the place of his son, who did not join the ship for the voyage as his wife had just died. The ten survivors were picked up by the Norwegian Government steamer Michael Sars after they had drifted helpless before the blizzard for twelve hours.
