Third-party Insurance of Motor Vehicles. W'hite figures on a chocolate background will be the distinguishing feature of the new motor registration plates, which must be affixed to vehicles on June 1. The motive powrer of vehicles, whether electricity, steam or kerosene, must be shown on the registration form this year, in view of the special taxation measures. There will be reductions in the third-party insurance premiums on tractors, traction engines, passenger-carrying vehicles, contract vehicles, caravans and service cars and coaches, but ordinary motorcars not be affected. Registrations may be made from next Monday, May 10, until the end of this month, at the parcels branch of the Post Office in Hereford Street. The new plates cannot legally be affixed to vehicles before June 1. Several changes have been made in the amount of third-party insurance premiums this year. Tractors and traction engines and certain of the vehicles exempted from payment of the annual license fees will now have to pay 10s instead of £1 per year. Motor vehicles other than cycles used by fire brigades will pay £1 instead of £2. Premium For Taxis Lower. Passenger-carrying vehicles of the taxi class, and rental and private-hire cars will be charged £6 10s instead of £7. Those of the omnibus type (“ P ” plates) equipped to seat not more than twenty-six persons will pay £7 for the first ten persons, 5s for each person in excess of ten, or £ll for twenty-six persons. Previously the fee was £ll 10s for the first ten persons, with an extra 10s for every person in excess of ten, or £l9 10s for twenty-six persons. In excess of twenty-six persons the amended premium is 2s for each person in excess of that number. Up to the present the fee has been 5s for each prson in excess of twenty-six. Contract motor vehicles, for the carriage for hire of school children, clubs and parties, are now to be rated at £2 10s when equipped to seat not more than ten persons. There is an additional charge of 2s for each person in excess of ten. The present rate is £3 for up to ten persons and 5s for each person in excess of that number. Any motor vehicles not specified, such as caravans, have been rated at £1 per year, as against the present charge of £1 10s. Service cars and coaches -with a seat, ing capacity of not more than seven persons, including the driver, will pay £7, with the addition of 15s for each person in excess of seven, with a maximum premius of £l3 15s. Up to the present the charge has been £7 for seven persons, with £1 10s for each person in excess of seven.
