GIRLS’ CRICKET.
Canterbury Team Plays the Rest.
BRIGHT BATTING. For the second time this season girl cricketers were seen in action on the llagley Oval, when the Canterbury representative team selected to play Otago next Saturday met a team from the Rest. R. Symons captained Canterbury, while P. Taylor led The Rest. Canterbury batted first, and in the first over M. Richards was clean bowled by P. Taylor for none. M. Norman was next In. Playing enterprising cricket, she and J. Webster put on 30 runs before Miss Norman retired with her score at 24. Miss Norman, one of the most stylish bats in the girls' competition, was stroking beautifully. She gave only one chance, a hard one to tho wicketkeeper. E. Jones was bowling very well for The Rest, and skittled Miss Webs'ter's wicket when she had made 19. R. Symons and B. Fellowes were each becoming set when they were dismissed for 14 and 16 respectively. The Canterbury innings closed for 88.
