Dear Sir, —While Mr Roberts is arguing with Mr Armstrong regarding Mount Magdala, might I suggest, before any more is said on either side, that an inquiry be made as to the cost of running the institution, the assistance it gets from the Government, and its receipts for the year? I am given to understand that the Government subsidises Mount Magdala to the extent of £6 a year for each girl committed, and that its assistance ends there. Beyond that the work done at the home has to cover all expenses, and, I believe, the Australian branch has had to foot the bill for debts here on more than one occasion. An inquiry, too, into the statistics regarding the girls who have passed through the home and become good citizens might also prove illuminating.—l am, etc., JG-
