MINING NEWS.
The Mahakipawa Goldfields Limited. The mine manager of Mahakipawa Goldfields, Ltd., reported for the week ended March 13 as follows: North Face—As the wash was dipping away very quickly at this face it was necessary to cut up the bottom of the drive for the last 70 feet and lower the rails so as to gain an extra 30 inches on the dip. The face has been advanced lift making a total 305 ft north of the shaft crosscut. The wash dirt has been very stoney with a deep and narrow gutter running due north. Gold found only in this gutter. No 11 East Crosscut (South Drive) —Advanced 27 feet making a total of 96 feet east of the south drive. The wash continued fine with a thick seam of black cement about 3ft above the bottom for the first 20 feet. Only a little fine gold was seen but in the last 7 feet a change has appeared both in the wash and bottom rock. The wash is now blue, stoney and rests on a softer bottom rock. Prospects taken show gold to be coarser and more Pl a* 1 wash up on March 11 returned 20oz 4dwt alluvial gold. King 1 Solomon Saturn. Per Press Association. INVERCARGTLL, March 17. The wash-up at the King Solomon mine for the week totalled 790 z 15dwt.
