STERN RESISTANCE.
Chinese Swordsmen Cause Concern to Japan. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. PEKIN, March 17. Japanese Press despatches admit that the situation at Hsi-fengkow is being watched with great concern by Japan, as each attack by General Sun Chenyuan’s swordsmen swells the growing Japanese casualty list. There is strong reason for believing that if the Chinese resistance continues the Japanese will bomb the Chinese concentrations inside the Great Wall, and possibly despatch an expedition up the Luan River Valley from Shanhaikwan or some adjacent coastal point. General Sun Chen-yuan’s defence of Hsi-fengkow is comparable with the exploits of the Nineteenth Route Army at Shanghai last year. He has become the hero of the hour, and is receiving congratulations from all parts of the country.
