THIRD WAGE CUT.
Auckland Harbour Board’s Decision. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. March 7. Further reductions in the salaries of its staff, to operate from April 1, were agreed to by the Auckland Harbour Board. This is the third salary reduction to be made by the board since June, 1931. On the recommendation oi the economy committee, it was decided in the case ol' salaries exceeding £250 a year and less than £450 a year that a reduction ol 5 per cent be made, but that salaries should not be reduced below £250. Salaries in excess of £450 are to be reduced by 7i per cent, but such salaries are not to be reduced below the higher wage of the lower grade. The economy committee is to have power to modify the amount of the reduction in cases where the reduction 'will operate unequally or unfairly: The reductions made in June, 1931, were 10 per cent on salaries of £250 or over and 5 per cent on salaries under £250. A year later further cuts were authorised as follows:—31 per cent oil salaries from £lOl to £350, 5 per cent off salaries from £351 to £SOO, 7£ per cent off salaries from £5Ol to £IOOO, 10 per cent off salaries over £IOOO.
