YACHTING.

Combined Class Race at Redcliffs. Ten yachts started in the Christchurch Sailing Club’s combined class race at Redcliffs to-day, but only three finished. An exceptionally stiff nor’-wester accounted for the others. The boats started at the club’s jetty to sail twice round Skylark Island and twice round the Avon pile, then home. In the first few minutes, Cygnet broke her rudder pin, Possum’s sail blew out, and then at intervals Gazelle, Playmate, Tiki, Winsome and Waka withdrew. There were no capsizes. Results:— Secret (F. Morrison, Bmin) .... l Rita (R. Beveridge, 7Jmin) .... 2 Seamew (A. Round, Bmin) .... 3 Won by 3min 48sec. Outboard Races Delayed. Jobbled water, caused by a stiff nor’wester, delayed the start of the Canterbury Outboard Motor Boat Club’s championship at Redcliffs this afternoon. Placing was scheduled to begin at three o clock, but two hours later a start had not been made.
