A REGAL LADY MACBETH.
Dame Sybil Thorndike at the Theatre. RICHLY COLOURED COSTUMES. Dame Sybil Thorndike, who took the part of Lady Alacbeth at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night was a regal figure in the richly coloured and magnificently conceived costumes which she ware. From scarlet curtains, which parted to.show her shadow, towering and fantastic in the background, stepped Dame Sybil Thorndike. Her billowing voluminous scarlet robe, with long pointed sleeves and the scarlet wimple draping her head, lent additional majesty to her commanding figure. White and red, the white <?f a bed gown and the red of a wimple enfolding her head, were worn by her in Scene S, but it was in the next act that her most elaborate costume was worn. There, Lady Alacbeth, crowned queen, appeared in a gown of black, crossed on the bodice and sleeves in gold. A hint of green on the lower parts of the . arms lent colour to the sleeves, and a gorgeous cape of gold satin, lined with scarlet and emblazoned in a peacock-eye design, fell to the ground in a voluminous train. Her jewelled crown was clasped to her head and. fastened round the oval of her face and chin with a scarlet and brilliant studded draping. In her last appearance she was clad in a night robe of white, the pale gold of her loosened hair lying upon her gown. fl I*l F*ll*l IS) 1531 ® !¥l Bel fiEl SB Ml SI 133153 133 EH !3
