SCOTTISH SOCIETY.

The first ceilidh of the year was held In the Scottish Society’s rooms, Manchester Street, on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance, and the programme was arranged by Messrs M. Shier and R. M. Speirs. Chief T. Gordon gave a short address of welcome to members and friends, and conveyed the season's greetings from the council of the society. He said that, although the society's finances had suffered during the year past owing to the severe economic conditions which had prevailed, he looked forward with confidence to a year of prosperity. The following contributed to the programme:—The society's pipe band opened the proceedings with a stirring march; Highland reel. Misses Smith, H. M’Lachlan, Jessie Kennedy and D. Aitken; song, Mr W. Donaldson; Scottish selections, Bryson’s Band; song, Miss Miretta Shier; eeann triubhais. Miss Reta Campbell; violin solo, Mrs Bills; song. Miss K. Chappie; pipe solo, Mr Hamilton; sailor's hornpipe. Miss Madge Walton; song. Mr Todd; song, Mr Donald Foster; seann triubhais. Miss Rona Belmer; piano accordeon solo, Mr Hamilton (Bryson’s Band); reel o’ Tulloch, Misses M. Walton, K. Walton, R. Campbell and Rona Belmer. A vote of thanks was accorded to the artists, the promoters of the concert, Mrs Creagh, Bryson’s Band and Miss Alice Gibbs, A.T.C.L., by Senior Chieftain R. M. Speirs.
