SHARP RISES IN PRICE.

Sir Edmund Ve»tey’» View of Meat Situation. United Press Assn.-—By Electric Telegraph—-Copy ri gh t. LONDON, January 13. The “ Daily Herald ” gives prominence to the fact that one or two meat combines handling South American supplies are out to invade the Australian meat industry on a large scale in order to take full advantage of the trading facilities agreed upon at Ottawa between Britain and the dominions. The “ Daily Herald ** couples the news with Australian proposals to develop the Northern Territory as a source of supplies. Sir Edmund Vestey, interviewed, said that it would take Australia a decade to produce enough cattle to replace the South American supplies kept out of Britain by the Government’s policy. Before the end of the year there would be sharp rises in the prices of meat, which the poorest consumers would feel most.
