TAMAROA’S NEW RECORD

Fast Voyage from Panama to Wellington. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s steamer Tamaroa continues to make fresh records. Her latest achievement was to break her own record between Panama and Wellington on her present voyage to the Dominion, when she averaged 15.3 knots and accomplished the voyage across the Pacific in 17 days 18 hours steaming time. Her performance was all the more meritorious because for the last two days of the voyage heavy weather was encountered. The seas, it is reported, were as heavy as those often encountered in the Atlantic Ocean. The Tasnaroa’s best average across the Pacific was 15.2 knots. The trip from London to Wellington was done in 31 days 13 hours 39 minutes steaming time. The best day’s run was made after leaving Panama, when the vessel made 396 miles in twenty-four hours, which was also a record for her best day’s run. The average speed for the voyage was 15.1 knots.
