FOUR MEN INJURED.

Motor-truck Somersaults In Moorhouse Avenue. SENSATIONAL SMASI-I. Somersaulting in Moorhouse Avenue last evening a one-ton motor-truck caused injury to four occupants. The injured men are:— J. T. Doherty, of Windwhistle, head injuries. J. Fleming, of Culverden, head injuries. C. Bunker, of Riccarton, concussion and head injuries. T. Murray, of Windwhistle, driver, abrasions and a deep cut on the head. None of the men are considered to be seriously injured and their condition improved following on their admission to the Christchurch Public Hospital. Murray was subsequently discharged. The lorry was being driven west along Moorhouse Avenue, past the Hagley Avenue intersection, with a horse mower in the rear of the cab. The shaft of the mower projected beyond the end of the lorry and in passing another car the swingle-tree hit the car. This swung the lorry round and it swung over to the north side, heading for the gutter. Twenty paces further on it turned round and capsized, dragged some distance along the road, somersaulted, and. finally came to rest with its rear wheels in the gutter. The four men were travelling in ihe cab. One was thrown out on to the side of the road with his head in rhe gutter, but the three others were imprisoned in the cab. The door by the driver’s seat had been torn off and they were extricated by this means. A doctor and two ambulances were called, the St John Free Ambulance and the Christchurch Free Ambulance taking the men to hospital. The lorry was extensively damaged.
