Hindenburg’s Secret Request to France. ASKS RETURN OF TROPHY. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 12, 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, Jamtary 11. President von Hindenburg has addressed a secret request to the French Government that the standard of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment of Prussian Guards, lost at Rheims on August j 26, 1914. shall be transferred from the French War Museum to Berlin. The Prussian standard-bearer, who was mortally wounded, tore the flag to shreds, wound it round his body and was thus buried, but French soldiers in levelling the war fields discovered the trophy in 1920 and sent it to Paris.
