OFFER DECLINED.
Don Bradman to Remain in | Australia. REFUSES £IOOO A SEASON. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 12, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 11. Don Bradman has cabled the following reply to the Rochdale Club’s offer of £IOOO for the 1934 season : “ Regret that I am unable to accept. lam writing an explanation, and appreciate the offer.” Rochdale’s offer to Bradman, now declined, recalls the fact that ever since the first Australian team of white cricketers went Home in 1878, players have been imported from overseas by English clubs. The transfer of Alan Fairfax for the last season in England is the most recent of a long list. After its offer last year to Bradman had been declined, the Accrington Club, in the Lancashire League, engaged Fairfax for £450 a season, plus collections around the ground. ! After his tour with the Australian team in 1926, A. J. Richardson, the South Australian all-rounder, accepted engagement in the Lancashire League, and he has continued to play there in every season since. E. A. M’Donald, the Australian fast bowler, returned to England after the 1921 Test tour, and played for Lancashire in county cricket with great success. He is still in England, but is now with a League club. Although the English authorities disapprove of clubs tempting overseas players, there is general admission that a cricketer has as much right to capitalise his skill as a singer, actor or musician.
