Early Defeat of Hertzog Anticipated. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 23, 9.15 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, December 22. The political situation has not developed. It appears that Judge Txel- j man Roos took the plunge without con- j suiting General Jan Smuts and con- } sequentlv a Coalition is impracticable j at present. General Smuts is on a shooting trip and all his supporters have pledged themselves not to allow ; him to be sidetracked. General Hertzog has advised his sup- | porters that the session will last three ! weeks, which is accepted as an anticipa- j tion of defeat. It was reported yesterday that Judge Tielman Roos had resigned from the Bench and intended re-entering the political field, where he would lead a Coalition Government.
