A NEW STEAMER.

Melanesian Mission Project. (Special to the “ Star.") AUCKLAND, December 21. Advice has been received in Auckland that as a result of an appeal launched by the Archbishop of York for £SOOO for the Melanesian Mission £2500 was collected in ten days. This amount has been forwarded to assist in the cost of chartering ships to carry on the Melanesian Mission work pending the building of a vessel to replace the wrecked Southern Cross. It is proposed to build a new mission steamer in England and it should be ready about the middle of next year. There is a possibility, however, that a steamer will be bought if one can be found.
