THE FESTIVE SEASON.

Old Offender’s Reason for Drunkenness. “ It’s getting on to Christmas time. I only had two drinks—that’s all,” declared Mary Sheedjr, a domestic, fifty years, who faced yet another charge of drunkenness in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. “ Do you admit being drunk?” asked the clerk of the Court. " I was not drunk. I only had two drinks,” replied the accused. “If I only have one drink you say I’m drunk.” 44 Do you admit convictions for drunkenness on November 11 and 14 and December 5?” persisted the clerk. 44 Oh, I suppose so. You could drink me blind, the lot of you. Everyone takes a ‘spot* at Christmas time.” 44 Three months’ hard labour,” said the Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley).
