THRESHING MILLS.
Agreement Converted Into Award. POINT FOR INTERPRETATION. In the Arbitration Court this morning an application to have the industrial agreement entered into with the Canterbury Workers’ Union declared an award was made by the North Canterbury Threshing Mill Owners’ Association. His Honor, Mr Justice Frazer presided, and associated with him on the Bench were: Mr W. Cecil Prime (employers’ representative), and Mr A. L. Monteith (employees’ representative). The agreement was entered into on August 31 last, and the grounds for the application were that the agreement was binding on the majority of the employers, who employed a majority of the workers in the industry to which it related in the industrial district in which it was made, and was not against the public good or in excess of the jurisdiction of the Court. The association was represented by Mr IT. Tallott, who objected to the agreement being made into an award until some interpretation was obtained on the shifting time clause. The Court made an order converting the agreement into an award, and promised to give an interpretation of the point raised when they had had time to consider it. Mr Tallott: We have fixed our charges for the incoming season on the understanding that we don’t pay for travelling time, and we would like a decision as soon as convenient. * His Honor said the Court would try to get the interpretation out promptly.
