LATE SPORTING.

TRACK WORK. Fast Trials on Addington Course. The track was in good order at Addington this morning, but a cold easterly wind was in evidence, and made trainers appreciate their overcoats. All the work was done close to the inside rail. Belle Lorimer left on a mile and a half journey, being 1 4-ssec in front of Silver Bingen, with Great Author and Royal Comrade several lengths farther back. Belle Lorimer trotted the first half-mile in lmin 12sec, and reached the six furlongs in lmin 47sec, where Silver Bingen, Great Author and Royal Comrade began to close up the gap. Belle Lorimer was still in the lead at the mile disc in 2min 22 2-ssec, where Silver Bingen and Great Author ran up to her. She was in possession at the ten furlongs in 2min 54 2-ssec, but once in line for home Silver Bingen and Great Author drew level with her, and Royal Comrade, who had trailed them all the way, made a dash over the last fifty yards. Belle Lorimer stuck to her work, but Great Author headed her in the last few strides. Belle Lorimer's time for the mile and a half was 3min 28 l-ssec. Silver Bingen did 3min 26 4-ssec. Great Author was separately timed to do his first mile in 2min 17 3-ssec and the mile and a half in 3min 21 2-ssec. Royal Comrade registered about the same time. Wrecker escorted Biddy Parrish over two miles, the last twelve furlongs occupying 3min 36sec. Silver d’Oro set out from the two mile disc, but took 39 2-ssec for her first two furlongs. At the half-miie post she was picked up by Delightful. Silver d’Oro acted as pacemaker to reach the mile in 2min 24 3-ssec. She arrived at the mile and a half in 3min 30 l-ssec, and the mile and threequarters station in 4min 2 2-ssec. Coming down the straight Delightful issued a challenge, but Silver d’Oro Held him safe, and completed her two miles in 4min 35 2-ssec. Her time for the last mile and a half was 3min 19 3-ssee. Aristotle and College Boy were associated over a mile and a quarter. They paced in great style, taking lmin 5 2- for the concluding four furlongs, and 31 2-ssec to complete the last two furlongs. Fairyland (J. S. Shaw) left on a mile and a half journey, closely followed by Ruth Logan and Dolly Huon. The first half-mile was compassed in lmin lOsec and the mile in 2min 21 4-ssec. Grace Huon then joined in, and in a good finish Dolly Huon beat Ruth Logan by half a length, with Fairyland and Grace Huon a length away. The time was 3min 29 l-ssec. Don Chenault trotted solidly while negotiating twelve furlongs in 3min 42sec. King’s Voyage acted as pacemaker to Plain Silk and Todd Lonzia, the trio leaving the mile and a half station at various intervals. King’s Voyage reached the mile post in 2min 17 l-ssec, where Plain Silk and Todd Lonzia began to close on him. King’s Voyage reached the mile and a quarter disc in 2ipin 50 3- with Plain Silk and Todd Lonzia handy to him. Half-way down the straight Todd Lonzia broke, but regaining his balance quickly, finished within three lengths of King’s Voyage and Plain Silk, who were almost on terms as they flew past the finishing post. King’s Voyage registered 3min 26sec. Todd Lonzia was separately timed to trot his first mile in 2min 16 4-ssec, and the twelve furlongs in 3min 24sec. Auto Machine was indulged in sprinting tasks. Muriel d’Oro went a mile and a half, the last eight furlongs being negotiated in 2min 14 l-ssec. Golden Direct accompanied her over the first mile. Regal Voyage bears a well-trained appearance. Her task was a mile and a half in 3min 20 l-ssec. She registered 2min 14 3-ssec for the first eight furlongs. Todd Bingen (G. M’Kendry) gave another solid exhibition by trotting a mile and a quarter in 2min 59 3-ssec. Editor was indulged in a spin over a mile, but was not timed. Nelson Boy, with G. S’. Smith in the saddle, trotted a mile in 2min 19sec, the first four furlongs occupying lmin 11 1 -ssee. Hard Words and Arikitoa set out to go a mile and a half, but Arikitoa broke badly soon after the start and lost a dozen lengths, leaving Hard Words to go solo for a mile and a quarter before Arikitoa made up his leeway. The pair rattled down the straight, and arrived at their destination in 3min 20 2-ssec. Hard Words did his first mile in 2min 13 2-ssec.

ELLERSLIE NOTES

Cricket Bat Displays Good Form. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 22. The weather was fine though dull for the semi-final gallops at Ellerslie. The course proper, with the poles 35ft out, was in most demand. The tan, No. 3 grass, two-year-old and hurdle tracks were also available. The going was perfect. The best efforts over a distance on the course proper were those of Cricket Bat, Silver Scorn, Antique and Tout le Mond, while the best sprints were recorded by Sunny Song, Grand Sport, The Quorn, Cadland and Psychologist. The two-year-olds that impressed most were Dole, Fracas, Red Manfred, Polagia, Impasto and Gay Seton. On the course proper Silver Scorn (Eastwood) was allotted a mile. She ran the first furlong in 13sec, two in 24 2-ssec, four in 50 2-ssec and completed the journey in lmin 41 4-s,sec. She went very evenly and could have put up faster time. Supreme Ruler and Ruling King ran five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec from an almost standing start, the former pleasing better. Red Sun (Wiggins) and Berate (Eastwood) started off slowly over a round, being timed to run the last mile in lmin 45 2-ssec. They did not have much pace on till the seven furlong post and ran home from there in lmin 31 l-ssec. Red Sun finished several lengths in front, but Berate could have been closer. Karangapal, carrying a good weight, ran six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec, finishing on. Fracas was sent five furlongs, being timed to run the last half-mile in 49 4-ssec. Grand Review worked over six furlongs in lmin 23sec. Princess Doreen was given strong work, but was not sent against the watch. The Great Northern Foal Stakes candidate, Red Manfred, completed five furlongs in lmin 4sec, running on nicely. Great Star did strong work over a round in 2min 20 l-ssec, not doing his best. Cadland reeled off half a mile in 50 2- impressively. Epigram and Guarantee ran two furlongs in 26 l-ssec, and five in lmin 5 3- the former being a shade in front. Impasto and Gay Seton finished on terms after sprinting three furlongs in 37sec. Both went freely. Dole and Pegged Exchange completed five furlongs in lmin 4sec. Both worked well. Fast Passage (Eastwood) and Concentrate (Emerson) were companions over a mile in lmin 47sec. Fast Passage was drawing away at the finish, but i neither was doing his best. Antique (Parsons), Tout le Mond (Wiggins) and Gay Crest (E Manson) were associated over a round in 2min 4 4-ssec. The last seven furlongs took lmin 33 2-ssec, and the final half-mile 52 4-ssec. Antique finished in front, with Tout le Mond closing up. Gay Crest worked nicely The best effort of the morning over a mile was credited to Cricket Bat, who ran the first two furlongs in 24 2-ssec,

four in 50sec, and completed in lmin 41 1- the final six furlongs taking lmin 16 4-ssec. This is one of the best gallops seen here for some time over this distance. Grand Sport and The Quorn ran half a mile in 50sec, the former having a shade the better. Midian went seven furlongs comfortably in lmin 28sec. He was anxious to go faster. Sunny Sky, Merry Damon and Sunny Bachelor were companions over six furlongs, running the first three in 37 3-ssec and the full distance in lmin 17 2- Sunny Sky pleased most. Arise and Diatamous ran three furlongs In 38 4-ssec. Psychologist registered a smart effort over five furlongs in lmin 3 2-ssec. Loxdly Knight was allotted seven furlongs and recorded lmin 33 3-ssec. On the tan, Jaloux cantered to the top of the straight and completed a round in lmin 50 4-ssec. Azalea was with him over the last seven furlongs, which occupied lmin 32 2-ssec. This was a first-class effort. Broken Rule and All Humbug ran five furlongs in lmin 7 2-ssee, the latter impressing most.

Exaggeration and Tea Trader Go Well. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 22. Some brilliant sprints were recorded at Takanini this morning, when both Exaggeration and Tea Trader set tip new records for the track. The inside grass, with the poles 6ft out, was in use, and it was very fast. Tea Trader was first out, and covered five furlongs in lmin 0 2-ssec, without being kicked out. Speedmint and Royal Artist worked over eleven furlongs, the pace being clapped on at the mile, the pair coming home together in lmin 43 4-ssec. Both went pleasingly. Gay Marigold was doing better than Chief Joy at the conclusion of a mile run in lmin 4 4 4-ssec. The former went very well and could have registered better time. Exaggeration and Greek Gold began smartly at the six furlong post and were still together passing the three furlong peg, the time being 34 3-ssec. They covered the full distance In lmin 12 4-ssec, the former being a neck in fr< Great Emblem, Pillow Fight and Gold Trail, who was taken over from Ellerslie by J. Cameron, were sent from the mile and a quarter post. They covered the first six furlongs in lmin 18 4-ssec and came home over the last half-mile in 54sec, making 2min 12 4-ssec for the mile and a quarter. Trials for Manawatu Cup Meeting. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., December 22. Excellent conditions ruled at Awapuni this morning. The track was dry an fast. Both the course proper, on w men the flags were wide out, and the plough W< On the U course proper, Catalogue, After Money and Safari were companions over half a mile. Safari tailed off early, the other pair keeping together to *<jn the distance in 54 l-ssec. , Trojan Melody, Advantage and Lady Court finished in that order, with Tannin well back, at the close of five furlongs, which occupied lmin 6sec Wait and See strode over half a mile at a comfortable pace, the last three furlongs taking 39sec. Roval Jest displayed a turn of earl* speed and lasted just long enough to beat Colossian at the end of three furlongs, run in 38 l-ssec, with Hint three lengths back. „ ~ . On the plough Beaconsfield and Nebulae were together throughout a sixfurlong gallop in lmin 20sec. Tlie former was travelling within himself. Morrath drew clear of Mercian Prince in the closing stages of a six-furlong spin covered in lmin 20sec, the first half-mile being done in 53£sec. Beau Gallante led Bee Acre throughout In a seven-furlong task, the first half-mile taking 51sec. Beau Gallante moved very attractively. Statuary finished stronger than Joyspear at the close of seven furlongs in lmin 34 l-ssec. Headland ran a mile in Imm 49sec. He will not compete till the second day. Golden Chant, a maiden candidate, ran half a mile in 54 l-ssec. She is a full sister to the speedy but erratic Journet. Senegal slipped over five furlongs in lmin ssec. He will not run till the second day. Laokoon pulled up sore at the end of a six-furlong task which occupied lmin 21 2-s.sec, and was beaten home by the Quarantine gelding from the same stable. Minstrel Lad moved very nicely over seven furlongs after breakfast after taking 14sec for the first furlong and 53 2-ssec for the half-mile. He completed the task in lmin 34 2-ssee. Jean Ladosio, who injured herself at Woodville. took lmin 36 3-ssec for a similar task. Easterly, who will contest the highweight. event at Manawatu, jumped three flights of fences, giving a fair display. Her action is still scratchy. On Wingatui Tracks. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN. December 22. A strong wind was blowing at Wingatui this morning. On the grass, Lord Argour and Princess Argosy ran six furlongs in lmin 19sec; Gold Dress and Fine Weather took lmin 20sec, Cleaver and Bell Hill lmin 21 sec, Blue Hill and Colonel Quex lmin 22sec. Gold Paper ran six furlongs in lmin 19 4-ssec. Fair Weather ran four furlongs in 59sec; June the Third, five in 64sec; Gold Boy, the last three of four in 3 9 sec. Reminder went six furlongs in Imm 22 2-ssec; Shipshape five in 68 2-ssec; Bold Brigand and Witch of Erin, four in 60 l-ssec. Tippling and Red Racer ran eight furlongs in lmin 49 3-ssec; Solanum and Ruling Pen, seven furlongs in lmin 37sec. On the plough. Blue Metal and Daring Deed ran five furlongs in 68 2-ssec; Tlkley and Accumulate, six in lmin 21 2-ssec; Shock, the last three of four in 45sec; Amy Johnson and Mobile, the last three of four in 43sec.
