LYTTELTON NEWS.

St John Ambulance Social. Members of the Lyttelton Nursing Division of St John Ambulance held their annual social in the Y.W.C.A. rooms on Saturday evening. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, musical items and games. In a short address, Mr W. T. Foster, patron of the division, congratulated the members on the progress of the division, and on the splendid work which was being done. Mr Foster made two presentations to the Divisional Surgeon, Dr C. H. Upham, from the Nursing Division and the Ambulance Division respectively, and expressed appreciation of Dr Upham’s good work during the year. Mr Foster also made appreciative reference to the services of Mr and Mrs F. Mintey, of the Seamen’s Institute, and on behalf of the members made a presentation to Mrs Mintey. A presentation was also made to Nurse R. Ferguson in appreciation of her work during the year. In responding. Nurse Ferguson commented on the value of first aid work. Bouquets were presented to Mrs M. Bishop, District Superintendent, Christchurch, and to Mrs W. T. Foster, patroness of the division. Musical items were given by Mrs S. Martin, Miss A. Knowles and Messrs C. Ellis and J. Lester. Mr S. Martin was M.C. The classes will resume on February 4. Christmas Tournament. Each year just before Christmas, the Lyttelton Club holds a billiards tournament for its members, for which Christmas hampers are donated as prizes. This year’s tournament, which was held on Monday evening, attracted a large entry, and the games were keenly contested. The prize list included eight hampers and the winners were as follows: 11. Blackler 1. W. Henry 2, R. Colfins 3, H. Muir 4, S. Edgar 5, D. Collins 6 The seventh and eighth hampers were divided between six players. At the conclusion of the tournament supper was served. Seamen’s Picnic. The British Sailors’ Society will hold a picnic for seamen at Diamond Harbour on Boxing Day.
