A collective fine of £6OOO has been imposed by the Bengal Government on the inhabitants of the town of Pahartali, in the Chittagong area, the scene of a recent terrorist outrage, and seven surrounding villages in consequence of the failure on the part of Hindu residents to give the Government information regarding the terrorists, whom they are suspected to be harbouring and assisting. Realisation of the fine has been postponed until December 1. to see whether the action of prominent Hindu inhabitants in forming associations to aid the Govennent to track the terrorists will prove effective.
