Heathcote Council Unable to Help. HAS NOT THE MONEY. If construction of the M'Corjnack’s Bay causeway is proceeded with, little financial help can be expected from the a Heathcote County Council. The F county chairman, Mr H. C. FJavell, explained at the meeting of the coun- Ii cil last evening that while the council j was not opposed to the proposal, the finances of the county made it impossible to help. 1 Mr A. G. Williams, in whose riding the causeway would be, said that at a meeting of ratepayers in his riding, the I< proposal was turned down. W. Freeman said that the county must not take up too parochial an attitude on the question of unemployment. The Metropolitan Technical Committee had almost wilted away. R It had suggested major schemes. In North Canterbury £250.000 to £300.000 w was being spent annually on unemploy- m ed relief, and with nothing to show for it.
