Modern Buildings Planned for Napier. READY FOR DECEMBER. (Special to the *' Star.”) NAPIER. July 1. Next summer should'not find Napier again in the position of being unable to offer travellers the best in hotel accommodation, as was the case during the last holiday period. Two firstclass houses, the Masonic and Central, are under construction, and it should be a matter of only a few weeks before \ a start is made with the new Criterion Hotel. The three houses will be able to accommodate nearly 200 guests, provision having been made in the Masonic building for nearly 120, while each of the other two will have accommodation for about 35. Expenditure on the Masonic exceeds £40,000, while the Central is costing £24,000. The sum involved in the Criterion project is expected to reach £20,000. bringing the aggregate cost of the three buildings to over £BO,OOO, exclusive of the cost of fittings and furnishings. The new hotels will be up to date in every way, the plans providing for such appointments as separate suites, interroom telephone system and hot and cold water in all guest rooms. It is expected that the Central will be opened within a month or two, while the Masonic and Criterion should be ready almost simultaneously, the probable date of opening being next Dc. cember.
