THE LEAGUE CODE.

Third Round of Thacker Shield. WEST COAST REPRESENTATIVES The third round of the Thacker Shield competition in League football will be decided to-morrow. The games, starting at 2.45 p.m., are:— Addington v. Linwood, at Sydenham Park. Hornby v. Riccarton, at Linwood Park. Sydenham, a bye. The absence of leading players, who will be on the West Coast playing for the Alnsey Shield, will rob to-morrow's games of a great deal of interest. Most teams have good juniors who can be drawn upon, and the games should be interesting. The Linwood backs will be rearranged, as Jlerson, Gillespie arid Fairman will be absent. Davis, a third grade player, will be full-back. He is a good stamp of player and has been playing good football in his own grade. F. Jackson, the usual full-back, will play at centre. This tricky player will take some watching. Jorgenson and Priest will be on the other wings, while M'Causland will come out of the pack to partner Lynskey at five-eighth. Kelly will replace Fairman behind the scrum, In which position he should show up. He was half-back for the Wellington representative team last season. The forwards include Stewart, Sharpe, Chick Ringdahl and Rogers, and Desmond, a brother to Wally Desmond, the international footballer, will also play. C. M’Garry, who was stated to have thrown in his lot with Riccarton, will be out again as full-back for Addington. M*Garry, a tricky player when on his game, does not appear to settle down as a full-6ack, and would be more useful closer in. Townsend will be on one wing and Brimble on the other. Higgins will be centre, Simpson and Stuart at five-eighths, and M. Clegg behind the pack. Addington's back line is very fast and should prove to be Linwood’s downfall. The pack will include Les and Jack Amos, D. Crowe, Brownlie and P. Coate. a. promoted player. Addington will find it hard to fill P. Ward’s place, but probably F. Rouse, who hooked for them a few seasons ago, will find a place. The Canterbury League team selected to go to the Coast is composed mostly of players who will be playing theii* first representative match. W. Falamountain, full-back. has represented Canterbury and the South Island, and is a sound player. He seems assured of a trip to Auckland again this year. G. Falgar w’ill be on one wing and X. Gi-llespie on the other. It is hard to understand how Falgar, usually a fiveeighth, finds a place before AVellsmore, the speedy Hornby winger, or L. Higgins, the Addington centre. Both have been playing well. Merson, the centre, has been playing well in club games and should show up. The five-eighths are C-. Shackel and C. Wilkie. Shaekel has been steadily improving all the season and should show up in better company. He also stands a good chance of represenitng the South Island. The Coast forwards include three players who represented Xew Zealand against the English team in 1928. They’ are O'Brien, Calder and Griffiths. All three have been training hard with a view to inclusion in this year’s team. Devonport, who early in the present season turned out for Addington, will be on one wing, while Dodds and Hart, well known to Canterbury supporters, will be five-eighths.
