The Greens Were Fast.
Fast greens upset the New Zealand golfers who visited Sydney for the Kirk-Windeyer match. According to Mr G. O. Sutton, manager of the team, when interviewed on his return, it was really on the greens that the New Zealand side experienced most difficulty at Rose Bay, their main trouble in this respect being that the greens there are always kept very closely cut, and this, added to the fact that very drying winds were prevalent, made the greens exceedingly fast. “In regard to handicapping, we found as an instance that a hole of 430 yards would be down on the card as a 4, when in New Zealand it would almost invariably be a 5, and the New Zealand player would be more or less satisfied if he secured it in that score."
