The Milk Business.

To the Editor. Dear Sir,—l am sure the Christchurch housewives jumped for sheer joy when they read the reports of the recent meetings of milk farmers and retail milkmen, at which a decision was arrived at to organise some sort of producers’ organisation to: —(1) Control the supply of milk to city retailers. (2) Raise the price they (the milk producers) are to receive for their milk. (3) Compel retailers to buy their milk through the new concern and at the same time comply with all the conditions laid down by the suppliers. The long and short of the whole idea seems to be that competition, the life of trade and free enterprise, is to be entirely eliminated, and every Christchurch housewife is going to be dictated to. Many Liberal voters will be wondering how Mr A. A. M’Lachlan squares his political views with such an anti-social monopoly.—l am, etc., FREE TRADE.
