Rent Reductions .
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —On March 23 last I signed a contract to rent a house for twelve months from April 11, at a weekly rental of 255. Payments and occupation did not commence until April 11. I have approached the landlord, who refuses to reduce the amount agreed upon by the contract. I should be glad if you could solve the following problems for me:—(1) As the contract was prepared and signed by both parties on March 23, am I entitled to the reduction, as stated in the Act, when the rental did not commence until April 11? (2) The present owner did not buy until 1931. In January, 1930, the house was occupied by the previous owner. How can I arrive at the rent as payable at that time? (3) If I am eligible for the reduction, what action can I take to obtain it?—l am, etc., PUZZLED. It seems doubtful w’hether you are entitled to a reduction in the rent. In the circumstances it would be advisable to consult a solicitor.—Ed., “ Star.”
