LORD KILBRACKEN DEAD
Link AVith Gladstone and Godley. British Official Wireless. (Recei\'ed June 29, 8 a.m.) RUGBY, June 27. The death has occurred of Lord Kilbracken, aged eighty-five years, Avho as Sir Arthur Godley, AA’as pri\ ? ate secretary to William Ewart Gladstone. Arthur Godley, who Avas born in London on June 17, 1847, was the eldest son of John Robert Godley, one of the most active and influential of the founders of Canterbury. He was educated at Rugby, Balliol College, Oxford, and Hertford College. After two terms as private secretary to Gladstone (187274 and 1880-S2), he Avas appointed Commissioner of Inland Re\'enue. From 1883 to 1909 he was an Under-Secretary of State for India. He Avas created the first Baron Kilbracken of Killegar in 1909. For many years he Avas a trustee of the British Museum and chairman of the governing body of Rugby School. His heir is the Hon Hugh John Godley, K.C., Avho is fifty-five years of age. He is counsel to the Chairman of Committees of the House of Lords.
