Gatherings Held in Town and

Suburbs. SUMNER CROQUET CLUB. A successful Bridge afternoon was held on Thursday at the residence of Mrs T. Gough, the Esplanade, Sumner, where Mrs Gough and Mrs Reid were hostesses at a gathering held to aid the croquet club’s funds. At the end of a series of games, the prize-winners were announced as follows:—Mesdames J: A. Booth, A. A. Cheshire, G. Cowper and R. Mitchell. Others present were: Mesdames T. E. Whitfield, L. P. Longuet, G. Gerrard, W. Hudson Brown, A. Thompson, R. Waller. J. Wharton, I. Harbut, De Villiers, .Slyfleld, R. Blackett. J. A. Clark, Matthews, C. Crosby, T. B. Boulton, R. Lally, G. Armstrong, G. Watt and Misses Mac Inman, Slyfleld, R. Boulton, A. Gough, and M. A. Bain. Surprise Party at Sumner. The members of the junior Tennis Club at Sumner visited the home of their supervisor, Mrs L. P. Longuet, as a surprise party, on. Thursday evening. A programme of games and competitions provided an enjoyable evening for all, the occasion being a complimentary evening- in return for the work done by Mrs Longuet and Mr and Mrs Claydon at the recent club dance. The prizes were won by Miss Gwyneth Da we and Mr Claude Carter. Others present were: Misses Uanita Jensen, Betty Falconer, Edna Fenton, Trixie Longuet, Joan Falconer, Lena Cobbeldick, Pat Farnuhar and M. Malley, Messrs Felix Malleyi G. Sullivan, Louis Longuet, Rex Allen, Dudley, Bromley, Alan Dawe and L. King. Pantry Evening. Mrs P. R. Scott and Miss Gwen Davies were joint hostesses at a pleasant evening held at Opawa recently in honour of Miss Rita Gibbs, whose marriage takes place shortly. An enjoyable time was spent in games, competitions and musical items. Miss Gibbs was the recipient of many useful gifts. Those present were: Mesdames S. Gibbs, W. Davies, P. R. Scott, Misses Rita Gibbs, Nettie Bolt, Kathleen Instone, Mabel Banks, Betty Bailey, Ethel Banks, Louie Moore, Nellie Davies and Gwen Davies.
