News Censorship.
To the Editor. Dear Sir,—l wonder how much the i timed censorship imposed by the Gover mental scare-cats had to do with the sens tionally coloured reports of our recent d turbances which have appeared in ovens newspapers. I have neither seen nor hea any complaints of the accuracy of t reports that have appeared in the loc Press. I believe that the overseas nev papers have accredited representatives New Zealand attached to the local Prej so that, if no censorship had been impose trustworthy accounts would have be cabled abroad in the usual way. As thin are, it looks as if the ill-advised action the Government had stimulated news pi vateers to smuggle “ bright ” stories awi by telephone or by other means to whi departmentalism might not be live cnou; to pay attention. Has the censorship, most censorship does, defeated its o\ ends?—l am, etc., COOL HEAD.
