DRAINAGE CONTROL.
Concreting of Outfall Urged. A meeting of the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening was attended by Messrs S. C. Bingham (chairman), J. S. Barnett, E. H. S. Hamilton. Herbert Hill, C. S. M’Cully, W. C. Large and H. G. Livingstone. A deputation from the East Linwood and Woolston Progressive Association urged that the outfall drain from Aldwin’s Road should be conit was stated that 3 0 chains of work would cost about £2280, and the stretch from Aldwin’s Road to Telford Street would c-ost £4 50 if done under the No. 5 relief scheme. It was decided to forward to the association particulars of the estimated cost, with a statement of the extent to which the district rates would be affected. In the Woolston area, it was stated, the rate would have to be increased by one-third to cover the c-ost. The offer of the Christchurch Fire Board to protect the board’s property at Bromley for an annual fee of £1 Is was accepted In reply to an application from the Domains Board to have about 111 chains of the Addington drain piped through Hagley Park South, it was decided that the board could not carry out the work at present, owing to lack of funds.
