Canterbury Team to Play West Coast. "RAINER TO BE APPOINTED. •■ne executive of the Canterbury Footall Association met last evening. It was decided to play the match gainst Westland at Greymouth on Saturday, June 4, for the Peter Dawson -up. The Selection Committee reported hat the following had been selected to epresent Canterbury against Westland: V. Mitchell (Thistle), S. Cawtheray [Western), G. Sutherland (Thistle), F. Vdams (Xomads), A. Sutherland [Thistle), A. Walker (Thistle) captain, l. Flute (Marist), A. Trotter (Thistle), T. Walls (Technical), D. Sutherland [Thistle), A. M’Millan (Western). Emergency, A. Goddard (Kaiapoi). The following have been selected to go into training for representative natches during the season:—S. Walker, W. Mitchell, H. Johnston, G. Sutherland, r. Paton, A. Sutherland, A. Walker, D. Sutherland, A. Trotter, J. Bruce (Thistle), E. Barnes (Rangers), T. Walls, H. Tanner (Technical), S. Cawheray, W. Kelly, J. Halley. A. M’Millan (■Western), F. Adams (Nomads), J. The Selection Committee stated that it lad been decided to keep a register of these selected players, and insist on efficient training. The question of a trainer for the team was left to the Selection Committee. Mr F. Bennett was appointed manager Df the team, and Mr J. O'Brien as selector to travel w-ith the team. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. May 17. Record entries for the Chatham Cup have been received by the council of the New Zealand Football Association, the majority of the total of thirtythree coming from the South Island. The council met this evening. The Canterbury Association wrote desiring to play Westland for the Peter Dawson Cup on June 3 and also to secure an opportunity of selecting players from that province to play in the Canterbury team against Otago for the Football Association trophy on June 11. Canterbury nominated Mr W. P. Smith for the trophy match as referee. The council agreed to give the same financial assistance in the Peter Dawson Cup as in the Brown Shield. It was reported that Buller and Westland had a fixture for the Peter Dawson Cup. It was left in the hands of the secretary to see what arrangements could ■be made, the recommendation in regard to the referee to be forwarded to the New Zealand Referees’ Association. The date for the Football Association trophy match was approved. The entries for the Chatham Cup were referred to the Competitions' Committee for a draw to be made immediately. It was agreed to play the secondary schools’ tournament at Wanganui. Arrangements for the primary schools’ tournament were left to Mr S. C. Shed don and the secretary. It was decided to refer the insurance scheme submitted by Mr R. Telford, of Wanganui, to the associations, asking for the number of players who would come under it. The scheme provides for payment of 2s 4>d a season for a senior players and Is 6d for a junior. The benfits would be hospital and doctors’ expenses and £1 a week for seniors for six weeks and 10s a week for juniors.
