WEST COAST RADIO
(Special to the “ Star.”) GREYAIOUTH, April 1. There was a large gathering of radio listeners from Hokitika, Greymouth and surrounding districts at the Town Hall last night at a meeting convened for the purpose of discussing reception on the Coast and to meet Alessrs A. Gibbs, Dr AI. A. F. Barnett and J. C. Fairbairn, representatives of the New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Board. Air H. Ft. Barrett presided, and outlined the mission of the board’s representatives, which was to find out what the reception was like in different districts with a view to improvement and the development, of wireless on the technical side. Considerable information was given by local radio enthusiasts, and, summarised briefly, the position as far as the West Coast reception is concerned is as follows: Station IYA, Auckland—Poor, weak and unreliable. No good in daylight. Station 2 A’A, Wellington—Not very clear in daylight. Loudest of the YA stations at night. Station 3YA—Unreliable, and worse than station 1 YA. Occasionally strong in daylight, but faded out at night. Station 4YA, Dunedin—Passable. Unsatisfactory in daylight, but fairly steady at night, though on the weak side with occasional distortion. The chairman said the YA stations were inferior to 2FC and 2BL, Sydney, which were better on the average, with less distortion and fading. 2YA was decidedly ' the best of the four YA stations.
