REDUCED SHIP FARES

Split Among North Atlantic Firms Likely.

CRISIS MAY BE PRECIPITATED. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 31, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 30. The North Atlantic Shipping Conference meets at Brussels to-day to discuss a proposal for a 20 per cent reduction in “fares, regarding which there is a wide divergence of opinion. If the rival groups are unable to compromise one • section will probably break away from the conference arid announce reduced fares, thus precipitating a crisis in the conference, which has controlled the North Atlantic traffic for the past twenty years.

It is understood that the shipping companies are not considering a reduction in Australian passenger fares, which are already lower than the Atlantic Conference’s proposals.
