Recent Gatherings in Town and Suburbs. FAREWELL EVENING HELD. A pleasant evening was spent at th residence of Mrs Whitford, Addington, recently, when friends met to bid fare well to her grand-daughter, Miss Phyllis Brown, who will shortly leave the district. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs L. H. Brown. Mr and Mrs G. Brown, Vlr and Mrs F. Beattie, Mrs Whitford, Misses I. Beattie, P. Brown, N. Petrie, M. Buckley, B. Chapman, P. Campbell, E. Thomasr D. Harland, M. Chapman and E. Brown, Messrs R. Brown, P. Calder, S. Bodger A. Mahony, B. Hume and B. Kinnimouth. Plunket Workers Farewelled. The members of the committee of the Sydenham-Cashmere-Spreydon subbranch of the Plunket Society met yes terday at the home of Mrs Dan Reese, Cashmere Hills, to farewell two of their number, Mrs Leonard Clark and Mrs Philip Greenwood, who wilk both leave shortly for trip to England. Mrs Clark is one o the original members of the branch and Mrs Greenwood holds the office of vice president. Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson anc Mrs Cecil Wood, president and secretary respectively of the Christchurch branch, were also present. Mrs Cracroft Wilson spoke briefly of the excel lent and long service rendered to the society by Mesdames Clark and Green wood and wished them happy holidays Several pianoforte solos were given by Mrs W. Members of the Spreydon Basket-ball Club entertained many friends at a successful dance in the Coronation Hall Domain Terrace, on Saturday evening. The hall was decorated in the club’ colours of blue and red, and clusters of greenery relieved with' scarlet berries. Miss D. Moore’s Orchestra supplied the music. Novelties and novelty dances added variety to the programme. The supper extra was played by Mr K Brown. The committee responsible for arrangements comprised Misses Margaret Moore, Eileen Bell, Enid Moore, Roberta Poison, Betty Brady, Hazel Street, Gwen Gregson, Lillian Andrew, Rose Mayfield, Margaret Hider, May Gunns and Grace Smith.
