INVITATION TO LANG.

Unemployment Conference Called. WILL MEET IN MELBOURNE. United Press Assn.—By Electrto Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 15, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 15. Mr Lang has received an invitation from Mr Lyons inviting the New South Wales Government’s concurrence in a proposed conference to discuss unemployment problems. The Prime Minister announced in his letter that the conference would be held in Melbourne on April 12, and a special committee would be appointed immediately to make suggestions and recommendations. A meeting of the Loan Council will be called for the same date.

GUARD FOR MR LANG.

Special Precautions for Opening of Bridge. (Received March 15, 11.30 a.jn.) LONDON, March 14. The “ Daily Telegraph ” says that nearly half the numerical strength of the New South Wales Police Force, some 1500 men, will be on special duty on March 19, when the bridge is opened. The authorities will be fully prepared in the event of trouble. Nearly 500 police will be on duty on the bridge itself and the official dais will be closely guarded with a large squad of plain-clothes officers, watching over Mr Lang, and mounted troopers will be held in readiness.

THE KING AND MR LANG

Will N.S.W. Premier be Removed from Office? (Received March 15, 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 14. The Sun-Herald News Service says that it is difficult to see how the New Guard petition for the removal of Mr Lang can meet with a response here. The decision obviously rests with his Majesty and his intimate advisers, apart from the British Cabinet, and upon confidential communications between his Majesty and Sir Philip Game. The real issue may hinge on the precedent which would be created if Mr Lang were removed.

FEDERAL DIFFICULTIES.

LONDON, March 14. The “ Manchester Guardian,” in a leader, savs: “ Nobody quite knows how long Mr Lang will be able to hold out against the Commonwealth for a State is a difficult thing to coerce. Mr Lyons cannot afford to allow the finances of New South Wales to be completely shipwrecked in the process of bringing Mr Lang to heel or the whole object of his policy would be defeated. The controversy has its amusing side, but none the less it is serious, for the soundness of Australian finance, and perhaps the whole future of the Dominion is at stake.”
